Well I've looked into a few online services that allow collecting of funds for causes such as ours. They all seem to have a few problems that make them pretty much unusable:

1. fundable.org

We'd have to set a fixed amount we want to raise which would only be collected if that amount is met, so it would be "all or nothing".

2. chipin.com

They set a maximum amount of US$3000 plus a limit of 20 people (which can be increased by request - I've emailed them to ask).

3. dropcash.com

"In beta", so there is precious little documentation. Also we "may be charged a small fee per transaction by PayPal" but it doesn't say how much that would be. Again, I've emailed them to ask.

If anyone knows of any similar services, or if you can think of an alternative, post a comment here or click "contact" on the ArtNotAds.com website.

Update!

DropCash have suggested I contact PayPal to find out how much the fee would be.... but ChipIn seem to have come up trumps: they would waive the US$3000 dollar limit, we could have as many contributors as we want, and they supply a nifty little "widget" with a progress bar and "ChipIn" button for inclusion on webpages. The 29 day limit still stands, since it's the longest a credit card order can be held, but they're working on a way to bypass that and could have something out in a couple of months. That might be too late for us, in which case I think we'll have to risk it with the 29 day deadline.

Stay tuned... but it looks like ChipIn might have it in the bag.
